A long overdue update.

I started writing this on Monday, October 25 and now it seems silly to post it. But, since I spent the time on it, I will post it and if you want to read it, go ahead.
Friday, Oct 22:
Team Grey Wall (Kelly, Brett, Tyler and me) painted and redecorated Ivy's bedroom in 4.5 hours. The only problem that TGW came across was when we opened the paint can and the grey paint was white!!! To solve this we mixed in some black paint, that Rob used for his room, and presto we had custom grey walls.

TGW met up with Team Fake Date (Ivy, April, Sarah and John) at the Black Cat. We briefly danced on the backstage and then headed back to Hobart to toast to Ivy's new room. Everyone followed her upstairs and just as she was about to open the door, she remembered that there was no toilet paper in the bathroom, so she turned around to go back downstairs to get some. Someone distracted her by saying they wanted to go sit on her balcony and she opened the door. It was so cute, she started crying, she loved it. It looked fabulous.

We milled around in the kitchen for awhile and then on the porch.
Kelly left me with her clipboard which provided hours of entertainment for me the rest of the evening. Check back tomorrow for Warnock's greatest moments.

The next 5 hours disappeared before my eyes. Soon we were walking out of Warnock's as the morning people were setting up their flowers and foods. I fell asleep to the sounds of the kids upstairs running around the house at 8AM.

Saturday, Oct 23:
Slept til 4pm, thank god, Sarah woke me up. I was able to get out of the house for a few daylight hours. Met Ivy at Dos Gringos for lunch. We tried to go back to her house and watch Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind under blankets that did not keep us warm. Being too cold to concentrate we left for the warmth of the cave. Toward the end of the movie, I started to believe in fate again. April joined us, the girls waited for me to shower and we walked over to the Raven for a drink. This was supposed to be a local low-key night, but of course we couldn't stay away from DC9. I have never seen DC9 this packed. Good job Monopoli. Where are all of your fans from? I heard its cuz Alfonso works at Kingpin. The night ended at the Diner with the mammal and Paul.

Liberation

Liberation Dance Party

|

If you've lost your faith in love and music, oh the end won't be long.

After reading everyone's reviews of the Libertines show at the 9:30 Club, I am adding mine. Unfortuntely, Tuesday nite left me with the chills and a massive hangover yesterday, so I had to leave work early and fall asleep on my couch watching Annie at 1:00 p.m. So, one day late, here are my thoughts on the Libertines.

I was wrong about Pete, he wasn't there, even though at the last minute, I heard word that he was. Shows at 9:30 are much better when they are not sold out. The crowd was fun, April and I were surrounded by little boys and one Incubus dancing type fan who bumped into me and made me burn my finger with my cigarette. That guy sucked, but it was a much less rowdy crowd than the Killers show a few weeks ago. I thought the Libertines sounded great. It can't compare to the Black Cat show they did Summer 2003, but overall, I enjoyed their performance. It seemed that they rushed through some of the songs, but as the nite went on their sounded better. April determined that they played for almost 2 hours, which is pretty good, since they act like such rockstars and usually these kind of bands just want to finish up and start the party, ie the Strokes who play a 40 minute set with NO encore. The shirtless encore was great. Carl has mini nipples.

DC9 advertised the official Libertines dance after party, however, there was no dancing and no Libertines until almost 1:00 a.m. I like DC9 a lot, but they really have the wrong set up for dancing. The DJ booth is too far from the dance floor and they don't seem the get the right music playing until it's too late. They played the new U2 song, the one from the iPod commercial, the one that reminds me of the Frequency. It sucks though and the mammal told the DJ that fact. He apologized later for playing it. The Libertines were hounded as soon as they entered the bar. Mostly by the Carl look-a-like in the striped blazer who had his arm around Carl during the encore and this one lanky, but frumpy blonde had Carl cornered the rest of the nite. April, the mammal and I danced on the couches in the "make-out room" trying to get his attention. We came to the official decision that the Libertines are snobs, esp. Pete's tour replacement.

Radio 4, on the other hand, are very friendly. Gerard is adorable. Later we spotted them leaving a 7-11 and they all waved at us as our cab rode away. (Speaking of cabs, uh!!! I hate them. The mammal had to fight with our cabdriver when we got out because he overcharged us.) We left DC9 way after last call, maybe 2:30am. Waiting for a cab, we found the Libertines on the opposite corner, so we crossed to wait for our cab there. April and the mammal smoked a cigarette with Pete's replacement, who I can't bring myself to like, because I just want Pete to be there. In fact, I think this is why people were so disappointed with the live show. Pete not touring with the Libertines is like John Lennon not touring with the Beatles, something is lost.

Let me tell you about the Liberation dance party at DC9. This event begins on Friday, November 5 and will take place every Friday. Hopefully, soon, April and I will be DJing. More info to come soon.

Taking pictures.

I finally fixed all the problems with viewing my photos (i hope). I should have the photos from NYC up here soon.

|

Oh, what became of the Likely Lads?

Tonight is the Libertines show at the 9:30 Club and I keep getting these vibes and hints that Pete is performing with them. I saw the Libertines last summer, sans Pete, and it was one of the best shows ever. I have to be at work at 8am on Wednesday, but that is not going to stop me from hanging with the lads at the DC9 afterparty.

Dedicated to Rock and Roll

I am sitting on Mera's bed right now getting ready to take a nap. Last nite Liz and I went to the Ramones Tribute Benefits Show in NYC. We stood up for 7 hours of rock including Sonic Youth, The Strokes and Blondie. A Ramones tribute band played with special guests: Joan Jett, Andrew WK, dude from Queens of the Stone Age and more that I can't remember. My body was knocked around, we moshed, it was insane, I have bruises all over my body. We both took photos, so I will try to have those up here soon. We met these two dudes one from LA and one from Germany who wanted us to come see them play at the Continental tonite. They were playing in an Arthur Kane tribute show. They also invited us to leave our desk jobs behind and go back to LA with them. This offer was very tempting. Desk job vs L.A. Who do you think would win? They put us on the guest list for the show and gave me a CD, but I think that we both had enough of NY tribute shows for awhile.

At one point during the nite, Liz and I were outside smoking a cigarette. I started talking to this guy about the Pixies. Liz comes up to me and says that she has to tell me something important. So, I excuse myself from the guy and she tells me that she lost Aquavit, her cellphone. So, during all the excitement and moshing, her phone fell out of her bag. We knew finding Aquavit was a lost cause because basically it would have been smashed by the time we found it.

"Aquavit is in heaven with god." - Liz Crow

Today, we went to brunch with Mera at the Paris Commune and then spent the next 5 hours walking up Broadway and shopping. It took us awhile to realize that we were moving at an extremely slow pace. We definitely went into 20 shoe stores, so after awhile I thought that I might as well buy a pair.

Right now, I feel like I might start spinning if I don't take a nap before we try to venture out to Brooklyn to see Anne and then head over to Misshapes, finally.

The End vs. The End Has No End

I wrote this on Monday, but did not post it until today.

I didn't go out all weekened because A. I was tired and overbooked all weekend, so I stayed in Friday and Saturday nights, and went to bed 5 hours before what has become my normal bedtime. Waking up early on the weekend is exhilarating. All the things that you can do in a day are really amazing.

On Friday nite after work, Ben V. and I rented a U-Haul and spent the next 4 hours picking up a couch at Discovery and delivering it my apartment. I have lived in this apartment since March and now I finally have a couch. This makes me so happy you have no idea. It's an Ikea couch that I got for free. It's not the best sitting couch, but it is a fantastic laying down couch. Good thing my roomie is itty bitty mini and we can snuggle up on it all winter long AND today I bought a new remote for my tv, which has had a broken remote for a year. So I am set for nites in front of the tv instead of in front of the bottle.

After couch moving, Ben and I ate chinese and attempted to watch Coffee and Cigarettes, but I was so exhausted from the couch moving that I kept falling asleep. And all I wanted to do throughout the whole movie was smoke and drink coffee. Movies about addictions, wow are those hard to watch or what?

I woke up early on Saturday, it was pretty dreary out, but it felt great to be up so early. I definitely overbooked my Saturday, but I did accomplish to go to the bank in Rockville, shop with Caroline and go to Cob's birthday dinner in Olney. I missed Crafty Bastards and I didn't go out, but luckily, I didn't miss anything there.

Sunday, I again woke up early and met the girls for brunch at Saint Ex. It was a beautiful day and we got drunk on Bloody Mary's and brainstormed. Soon I will post pictures of our lovely walk home through Meridian Park.

Sarah and I stopped at Hobart on the way home and got sucked into Blue Crush with Rob and Ivy. Finally, we made it home and started getting ready for a night with Ambulance and The Killers. I think getting ready was the highlight of the night for me, because suddenly I was too drunk to remember having fun. As soon as we got to the 9:30 club we headed to the bar and did some shots with the HOT bartender that Caroline somehow knew. There are pictures of this guy coming soon. I spent the whole first set pounding beers and doing shots. Then we headed downstairs to get a good spot for Ambulance, right between Benji and Marcus, my fav spot. I was so drunk and taking so many pictures that I can't even remember the setlist. They sounded great, but this was not the best show that I have seen. They seemed different at the 9:30 club. I always like seeing my fav bands at the smaller venues, it is more intimate and the crowd energy is always different.

After Ambulance, Sarah went off with M. and Caroline went her own way, maybe back to hot bartender, maybe off with another guy who works at the club. I went straight the the front center of the stage and somehow got trapped where all the frat boys were losing their shit. I had to punch and yell and elbow the entire set all while taking pictures (which actually came out good-I will post these soon-I swear) and dancing. And don't forget that I spent hours before this drinking, so I was drunk. The energy was great, but the crowd was horrible. I don't like spending the whole set being pissed off, but luckily I was drunk enough to get over it.

After the show, I tried to call Sarah so I could meet up with her. It ended up that someone had her cellphone that wasn't one of the people that she went off with so I had to freak out. I tracked down people from the band and asked them where she was and I was on like a roommate mission. Eventually, I found her, thanks to Benji. The band left, Sarah found her stuff.

We went to the Diner to get Caroline some food. DB was there and I was wasted and had to hug him and spend like forever talking his ear off. But he likes boys so we are over that. Caroline got pissed and walked out. Then somehow we ended up over at Toledo with D. people. and then I was just a mess, trying to make the red lights stop spinning.

For some reason, Sarah and I got in a fight on the way home. Probably cuz we were both mad cuz the boys we like are idiots. I almost got in a serious bike/pedestrian accident. A biker sideswiped me as I crisscrossed the sidewalk up Columbia. As soon as I walked in the door, I passed out. Amazing I woke up on time for work, I was definitely still drunk, but I made it to work on time and made it through the day and the week.

Today is my friday. Liz and I are going to NYC tomorrow morning for the Ramones Beat on Cancer Tribute Show with The Strokes and Sonic Youth. We are also planning to go to misshapes on Saturday nite.

But, right now I'm going to go down to Asylum now. Sarah works there now. And Jason is hanging out.
