Malkmus

Stephen Malkmus to Play Select U.S. Dates This Summer

Chris Rediske From Pitchfork reports:

When Matador Records says that Stephen Malkmus will be supporting his new album with "selected dates," they mean it. This summer, Malkmus will be crisscrossing the United States in support of Face the Truth, hitting a whopping six cities in no less than 30 days. To be fair, Matador has stated from the start that Malkmus would be doing minimal touring for this album, so those of you in Philadelphia, New York, and Minneapolis (and Cleveland?!?) can just count yourselves lucky, we guess. As for us, we'll just play the CD really really loud and clap at the end of songs.

Dates:
06-05 Philadelphia, PA - Theatre of Living Arts
06-07 New York, NY - Irving Plaza
06-09 Cleveland, OH - Beachland Ballroom
06-10 Detroit, MI - St. Andrew's Hall
06-12 Minnapolis, MN - First Avenue
06-14 Los Angeles, CA - El Rey
07-04 New York, NY - Battery Park (w/ Yo La Tengo, Laura Cantrell)

You suck, ass.

Indie rock is so in now, it's all most sickening. There is no good reason that Bloc Party should have sold out this early. I don't know anyone that has a ticket, and these are people that basically live at the Black Cat. More of what I am pissed about is that The Ponys and Pony Up! are playing that night too and I have been dying to see both of these bands. Effing fuck. That's all I want to say about that for now. I have been bitching for a few days now and I'm taking a break.

Eff it - I am going to throw a party that night in rebellion. It will be a BLOC PARTY. We will serve cold war beers and delishy vodka drinks and cheers to the Soviets.

Minor Celebrities

1. Everyone's favorite Black Cat bartender, Chuck, is now Bartender of the Month (according to the Washington Post.) Stop by the Cat on Saturday for the French Toast/Shortstack/Spinto Band show and order a delicious drinky with a smile.

2. You know him, you love him. He's the Julian Casablancas look-a-like (minus the chin) who waits graveyard shift tables at the Diner. You may also remember him as Diner Boy. Now known as John, he has recently been spending some Fridays at Liberation. This week he can be found playing in the European Poker Tour on all expense paid trip to Monte Carlo. This is the big time poker world with a $10,000 buy-in. I read that he made it through the first day. I have asked John to help me with my poker skills when he returns to D.C. to prepare me for my trip to Vegas on April 1. So, if the poker stud (ha ha, I love puns) can fit me into his busy schedule, I may well be on my way to winning big in Vegas and buying my mom a Judith Leiber purse, which she says I have to get her for her birthday if I win.

3. Robby Bobby, aka Rob Pierangeli, is playing his first solo set since the last Hard Tomorrows show on NYE 2005. Playing at DC9 with Paul Michel and The Sketches on Monday, March 21, this is show that should not be missed. I have heard some of the songs through the walls of the Hobart House and I have heard that they are good. Find out what he has been working on since January.

4. And last but never least, your own Megadork, Ms. Meg Casablancas, has filmed an episode of Motormouth with the ever loveable Avram. I will keep you posted on when our show airs, but it should be sometime in mid-May.

I rock, rock.

Last nite's celebration for Sarah at Toledo went from me yawning and sipping at the table at 9 to singing and kissing at 1. The final tab for the nite was $240. Ouch to my wallet and my head. I think that was from the 4 jager shots I took.

I'm still confused about why I have to work at all.

Tonite begins rock weekend. First up its Secret Machines/Moving Units/Autolux!!! Jenn and I predicted the flow last nite - mellow, dancey, mellow.

I'm very excited to see Robbers on High Street tomorrow. I have been listening to their fabulous EP for a few weeks and the full length just came in the mail from insound yesterday and I am listening to it now.

Have you seen the new Ambulance ltd video? It's just lovely.

I think everyone is going to these shows this weekend, so I'll be seeing ya.

I knit.

It's not as cold as yesterday, but I am still wearing a scarf wound tightly around my neck. My colleagues, if you can even call them that because basically I am the office biatch, keep asking me if I am cold. Yeah, duh. I'm fucking freezing, do you want to feel my hands?

I started my knitting class today at lunch. At one point in college I learned to knit and started a scarf, but my adult ADD and frustration with the sides curling in forced me to stop. I began to relearn today. In two weeks I will begin to knit some mittens. I love knitting. The purpose of the class at work is to relieve stress and take time out of my day to destress. This is perfect for me, since lately my job has been stressing me out beyond belief. I hope that taking this class doesn't get me in trouble with my bosses for being away from my desk for so long. That would sort of defeat the purpose.

In other news: Sarah was offered a position with the circus. They heard about her cute mammal ways and want to take her on the road.

No, actually she was hired as photo coordinator for the company that manages the circus. And we are talking about THE circus, Ringling Bros!!!

All this cold weather makes me so nostalgic for the summer and sitting at Toledo, so I decided that we will celebrate Sarah's new job tonite at Toledo. Yay. Job. Summer. Toledo.

brrrr.

I'm sitting at my desk and I have the chills. My left hand is like an ice cube. Why can't my office spend a little money and heat the damn building. Was that part of the 2005 budget cuts? Cuz it's not helping my productivity. It makes me daydream about getting in my pjs and watching tv in the cave under a blanket. This is the third day this week that it has been this cold in here. Tomorrow I'm typing with gloves on. Maybe someone will take a hint.

Now I only have 15 minutes left. And then I'm meeting the girls at the Raven for a drink. I gotta heat up somehow and I ain't going to the gym. Then I'm meeting the boy for dinner and possibly maybe going to see the Medications.

I have been really bad about going to all my shows. I wasn't feeling well and then there was the snow. But this weekend it is ON!!! Friday nite is Secret Machines, Autolux and Moving Units at 9:30 Club and Saturday it's AMBULANCEltd, VHS or Beta, and Robbers on High Street (which should be coming in the mail from insound today.) Matt got us our tickets yesterday so we are all set. Yay. It's going to be weird cuz I won't be able to swoon over Benji now that I have a boy. OH well, he's a psycho slut anyways (benji, not my boyfriend.)

Until tomorrow.
Freeze out.

Letter to the Troops.

A few weeks ago, Tonic held a collection for items and letters for the Troops. I think one of Bono's friends is stationed in Iraq. Bono is one of our bartenders at Tonic. The sign said that you could send food, snacks, books, newspapers/magazines, etc. The only things that you couldn't send were tobacco, porn and alcohol. So Kelly decided to write the troops a letter and enclose photos of the girls. I think she has started some sort of dating service for the troops.

Kel also gave the troops Ivy/Liz's address and mine/Sarah's address. So we hope to receive some letters/fan mail soon. I will post the responses.
